A-Fib Heart Surgery, using the Maze Procedure, is a surgical intervention that cures atrial fibrillation by interrupting the circular electrical patterns that are responsible for this arrhythmia. The major advantage of the Maze procedure is that it corrects all three problems associated with A-Fib: 1) ablates the arrhythmia, 2) restores synchrony between the atria and ventricles and 3) preserves organized atrial contraction. Hybrid Minimally Invasive Maze Procedure
The surgical Maze procedure is known to be the most effective treatment for A-Fib. Historically, however, heart surgery was not an option for patients with lone A-Fib due to its invasive nature. CSA is on the cutting edge of a new hybrid procedure that employs a totally endoscopic technique to treat A-Fib. This procedure requires no thoracotomy or sternotomy, thus patients who were not candidates for this procedure in the past now have the option of a surgical Maze procedure to treat their A-Fib. The procedure is akin to diagnostic laparoscopy and by combining the approach with catheter-based techniques by an experienced Electrophysiologist, the least invasive surgical procedure can be applied to correct atrial fibrillation.
