Without exception, each one of our cardiothoracic surgeons is as compassionate about the care provided for our individual patients as they are about the science of cardiac and thoracic medicine. Our surgeons are leaders in Central Virginia, where they perform the majority of major heart surgeries.

Richard R. Reynolds, MD, FACS (Retired)

The focus of Dr. Richard Reynolds' practice is Adult Cardiac Surgery with a special interest in Valve Repair and Aneurysm Surgery. Dr. Reynolds attended the Medical College of Georgia and attained a Maters of Physiology and a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Reynolds' post-graduate experience includes Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medicine. He also served as Chief Resident of General Surgery at the University of Alabama. As Cardiovascular Surgery Medical Director for Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Dr. Reynolds works closely with the hospital to monitor and maintain the excellent quality of the cardiac surgery program. Dr. Reynolds also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Henrico Doctors' Hospital.

J. James Zocco, MD, FACS

Dr. Zocco's specialties include Mitral Valve Repair, Adult Acquired Cardiac Disease and Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery. Dr. Zocco received a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. During his post-graduate training at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Zocco completed his residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery and his Fellowship in Peripheral Vascular Surgery. He was an assistant professor of cardiac surgery at Tufts University Medical Center and a recipient of the I.A. Bigger Surgical Award from the MCV Department of Surgery.

As Cardiovascular Surgery Medical Director for the Levinson Heart Hospital at CJW Medical Center, Dr. Zocco works closely with the hospital to monitor and maintain the excellent quality of the cardiac surgery program. Dr. Zocco serves as a member of the Board of Directors for CJW Medical Center; he is a past president of the Richmond Metro Area American Heart Association and a former Board member of The Community Foundation and the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Timothy C. Wolfgang, MD, FACS (Retired)

Dr. Timothy Wolfgang specializes in Adult Cardiac Disease. Dr. Wolfgang received a Doctorate of Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. He was also the recipient of the I.A. Bigger Surgical Award from the MCV Department of Surgery. Dr. Wolfgang has published over 30 articles on topics ranging from cardiac transplantation to general complications following cardiac surgery. Dr. Wolfgang is the Medical Director of the Cardiac Service Line at Hanover Medical Park and he currently serves as a Board Member for the Virginia Cardiac Surgery Quality Initiative.

Thomas D. Christopher, MD, FACS

Dr. Thomas Christopher's areas of expertise include Adult Cardiac Surgery, Aortic Surgery, A-Fib Surgery and Aneurysm Surgery. He acquired his Doctorate of Medicine from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He also received his postgraduate cardiothoracic training at Duke. Dr. Christopher previously held the position of Teaching Scholar of Cardiovascular Surgery at Duke University Medical Center and received the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute National Research Award.

Chiwon Hahn, MD, FACS

Dr. Hahn's practice specialty is Adult Acquired Cardiac Disease and Off-Pump Surgery, Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery, Transcatheter Valve Replacement and Robotic Cardiac Surgery. His educational background includes a Doctorate of Medicine from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. His postgraduate training included serving as Chief Resident in General Surgery and Chief Resident of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He also was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School as an Instructor of Surgery. His publications include such topics as myocardial preservation, thoracic aortic aneurysm repair and mitral valve repair. Dr. Hahn is a past Board member for the Richmond Academy of Medicine.

Graham M. Bundy, MD, FACS

Dr. Bundy's professional interests include Adult Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Aortic Reconstructive Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Techniques. Dr. Bundy attended the Medical College of Virginia and attained a Masters of Science in Anatomy and a Doctor of Medicine degree. While at MCV, he was awarded the Aesculapian Scholarship for academic excellence for three years in a row. He completed his General Surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and his Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Dipin Gupta, MD, FACS

Dr. Gupta's professional interests include Minimally Invasive Approaches to the Lungs and Heart, Lung-Preserving Resections and Mitral Valve Repair. Dr. Gupta graduated from the accelerated 6-year BS/MD program at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After completing an internship at The Mayo Clinic, Dr. Gupta completed his General Surgery residency at Temple University in Philadelphia and his Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at NYU in New York where he received extensive training in minimally invasive techniques.

He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and his Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at University of Virginia Health System.
